The island of Fuerteventura belongs to the province of Las Palmas, and is located is the east of the canary archipelago, on the south of Lanzarote. It is the closest island to the african continent and has six municipalities.

Fuerteventura is divided in 6 municipalities, North and South which are La oliva (which belongs to La isla de lobos), Puerto del Rosario which is the capital of the island and located in the south of the island owning the coastline from east to west. There are two municipalities Antigua and Betancuria that were previously mentioned that are right under them, and further south is Tuineje in the east coast as well as Pájara in the far south of Fuerteventura.

Each one of the municipalities of Fuerteventura are on the ocean side and their coastlines are the furthest developed on a partially deserted island in which some of it´s locations like Betancuria don´t even have a population of 1,000.

The economy of these municipalities depends mostly on tourism, a tourism that has grown in the last decades. Today it has countles hotels, apartments, hostels, aparthotels...everything at your disposition to enjoy your holidays.
